From Arnhem with Love

The first and only English-speaking Vitesse Arnhem fansite

It seems ridiculous that the Eredivisie doesn’t get anywhere near as much attention as it should. It is the best league in world football for producing youngsters – without a shadow of doubt. You just have to look at the Dutch league’s portfolio – the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luis Suarez, Marco van Basten and many, many more have all graduated from the Oranje’s youth system.

Pair that with the fast, all-attacking, stunningly beautiful football played by the Netherland’s elite 18 and it just seems terribly unjust that the more aesthetically-tedious and disenchanting leagues like Serie A get more attention from the British media.

I first discovered the Eredivisie at the beginning of last season, when choosing a league to cover in the first website I ever wrote for, Futbol Analysis. While searching for a niche subject to study, I was distracted by the news that Burkina Faso yougster, Bertrand Traore, amongst others, had just completed a second consecutive loan move to Vitesse, from Chelsea. After some heavy research on the affiliation between the two clubs, I soon became fascinated by the way the partnership worked. I just couldn’t understand why more sides didn’t follow suit – it’s a win-win situation for not only the feeder club, but for the parent club and the player, who would be gaining vital match experience – it seemed a flawless plan!

So I began to learn about, and watch Vitesse Arnhem, my new obsession. After writing my first ever article, about their affiliation with the English club, I began to devote large amounts of my free time watching YouTube clips of past Vitesse successes and some of the top players they’ve had.

I then took my love affair a step further and purchased my first Vitesse shirt. Sporting my brand new eagle-adorned shirt, I watched the initial winless months, before the Arnhem side roared into life come January, going on that fabulous winning streak, on the back of Uros Djurdjevic’s heroics against Ajax.

After writing articles all the way through the season, I began to flirt with the idea of creating the very first English-speaking Vitesse fan website – hence, the inspiration for From Arnhem with Love was born.

Starting from the 2016/17 season, I will be bringing you full match coverage for EVERY Vitesse game throughout the season, as well as a host of feature and analysis articles along the way. My sole aim with this project is to try to bring you the excitement that I, myself feel while following one of the most exciting sides in the Eredivisie.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy this website just as much as I’ve enjoyed producing it.

Toch leuk dat ie er wat tijd insteekt om die stukjes te typen!
Zo lees ik net dat Bony vroeger op proef was bij Liverpool en daarna nog een jaar bij Sparta Praag in het B team!!! heeft gespeeld.
